Repetitive Stress Disorder:
BioSero’s Approach [A Blog Series]
Part 2: Eliminating RSD Using Semi-Automated and Automated Pipetting Systems
Working with handheld pipettors is slow, tedious and prone to error. Even worse, there is a significant risk of Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI). It is because of these issues that there is a desire to replace the handheld pipetting operations in the lab with an automated solution. With a variety of robotic automated liquid transfer systems ranging in price, it can become overwhelming to select a good solution for any lab. While automated systems address many or all of the issues above, they are often large, take up valuable bench space, can be difficult to program and use, and can be very expensive to purchase and operate. We offer a solution to these issues as well as decreasing the risk of injury caused by repetitive stress.
BioSero offers high-performance automated multichannel pipettors which can be used in virtually any laboratory setting. The necessity of pipetting liquids into microplates is common for a wide variety of applications, and it is commonly done using the ubiquitous handheld pipettors that have been in use for years. While the handheld pipettors function well, they are more suitable in low throughput situations. Once a larger number of plates needs to be processed, the weaknesses of handheld pipetting become apparent and the repercussions of continuous pipetting show long term effects potentially causing long lasting injury to those involved in the process.
Pipettors offered are designed to bridge the gap between handheld pipetting and larger complex liquid handling systems. With a compact design, requiring minimal bench space, they are affordable and easy to use. These automated multichannel pipettors are often the first purchase for a lab transitioning from handheld pipetting. It is also common to see these multichannel pipettors on the bench in a lab along with larger liquid handling systems when there is need to complete plate pipetting efficiently and effectively. This smaller size does not compromise performance as each pipettor uses proven and patented designs to achieve accuracy and precision in each movement.
Additionally, though most of our pipettors offered are small in comparison to more complex expensive systems common in many labarotories, their capability and versatility are not compromised. Many models offer the opportunity to perform pipetting and serial dilutions in both 96 channel and 384 channel systems. The exchange between systems is a task taking merely seconds to complete. Many of our pipettors’ versatility has been perfected for more than 25 years based on the feedback and needs of our customers.
Not only do we offer versatile, cost efficient and time effective solutions to your pipetting needs, we offer a solution to the cause of a common laboratory ailment, Repetitive Stress Injury. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information regarding our pipettors and how we can help you automate your lab and reduce the risk of RSI.
