Tropical diseases are a major cause of ill health in developing regions of the world and affect over 2.7 billion people worldwide. Thirteen neglected tropical diseases are responsible for 534,000 deaths each year. The Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDIPD) in Parasitic Diseases is an interdisciplinary research center based at UC San Diego whose focus is the discovery and development of drugs and vaccines to cure tropical diseases.  This webinar features a presentation by Dr. Stephen Meister on his research to identify small molecules that target the liver, blood and/or sexual developmental stages of the malaria parasite.
